This is the time of year when food is a big deal. When I was growing up, we’d all head over to my Grandma Sandy’s house for Christmas breakfast and some homemade baking. What dominated the table was a tasty array of German holiday treats that only showed up during the special season.
I’m not sure if it was this love of German treats that eventually morphed into a love of German cars – Volkswagens, especially – but as I took some pastries over to share with the team at the premier Palm Springs VW dealership, it occurred to me that three of the most traditional German holiday snacks shared characteristics of three of the most traditional and popular 2016 VW vehicles!
Sound strange? Well let’s look at these pairings:
2016 VW Tiguan Pairs With Stollen
The 2016 VW Tiguan CUV has evolved since it debuted as a concept vehicle at the November 2006 Los Angeles International Auto Show, and has been the pacesetter for VW’s entry into the Sport Compact SUV arena.
Dresden Stollen (originally Striezel), a moist, heavy bread filled with fruit, was first mentioned in an official document in 1474. It’s been a holiday tradition ever since.
Both these two things have a long history, and have become mainstays of their brand – they’re perfect for each other!
2016 VW Beetle Pairs With Pfeffernusse
The redesigned 2016 Volkswagen Beetle is a fun car with a rounded, friendly design. Under the hood, though, it may have a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine!
Pfeffernusse is a fun-to-eat, rounded biscuit that looks like it will be bland, and go well with some coffee. Mixed into it, however, is a whole blend of aromatic spices – most commonly cinnamon, cloves and anise. Surprise!
2016 VW Passat Pairs With Lebkuchen
The 2016 VW Passat sedan is the tried and true of the VW lineup. A mid-sized ride with a strong engine and great gas mileage, it’s everything you want in a vehicle.
Lebkuchen was invented by monks in Franconia, Germany in the 13th century, and it’s still made today as a large, decorated cookie that’s exactly the kind of treat you want during the holiday season!
I don’t know about you, but I have two things on my mind now – eating a pastry and heading down to Coachella Valley VW to look at some new Volkswagens for sale in Indio! I may even wander through the pre-owned area to see what other seasonal VW deals and Volkswagen pricing incentives they have going on right now. You never know until you see what holiday Volkswagen offers that are happening just how good a 2016 VW can be – just like holiday cookies right from the oven!
